Can't wait to return!

Hi Koyomi,
Just to let you know we recently returned from our holiday to your beautiful country and had a fabulous time.
All the accommodation was excellent as was the tours. The JR pass was perfect for our travel needs and enable us also to explore towns outside the main Shinkansen lines.
Can’t wait to return to Japan. Thank you again for all your assistance.

Absolutely amazing Japan

Hi Koyomi,

My friend and I have come back from our trip to Japan and it was absolutely amazing. We had such a great time with so many memories we won’t ever forget. I bought so much stuff that after I filled my luggage I had to buy two boxes which I filled up and sent to Australia (they have arrived safe). I did (eventually) get to hand my letter in to Square Enix reception and while I have no proof, from what the lady said I believe the letter will be read by Mr Nomura. Unfortunately I did not meet him but maybe next time I will send another letter and who knows maybe he’ll remember the first letter and I’ll get another chance.

We had no problems with the trains or getting around, it was really easy as you said. The only hiccup was the first day (as you may remember with the rush to universal studios). Believe it or not the plane arrived an hour early but as we got to the terminal we found out that the office that exchanges the JR pass was closed till 7.30. In the end we just paid the extra money to catch a Nozomi and we ended up going to the hotel to drop off our luggage and then to Universal Studios. We did make it to the Harry Potter event and got to do everything we wanted so in the end it was ok. I’ll definitely admit though that first day was very exhausting and I would plan that better next time however I have no regrets as that One Piece show that you helped us get into to was absolutely spectacular. Believe it or not out of all the truly amazing things we saw, for me personally, that One Piece show was my favourite thing of the whole trip (I even teared up at the end) and I will never forget it as long as I live.

I’m sure you get a lot of people saying this but seeing all the anime, manga and games and also how polite and friendly everyone is over there I am inspired to try and learn the language. I did pick up on quite a few phrases and terms over there (which I was happy with) but I want to learn as much as I can. Anyways I just wanted to say a big thank you for helping us make the trip so amazing and all your advice. Again I can’t thank you enough for helping us get into the One Piece live show and even as far as the reception of Square Enix (which in itself is incredible). I really, really, really appreciate all your help and I want to return to Japan within the next 1-2 years and I will definitely seek you out if you are still in the business.

Hi Paul

Our trip was fabulous!! The accommodation – Hotel Monterey in Kyoto was in a great location within easy walking distances of city, Gion areas etc. The room was probably a bit small (but I think they all are!) but clean and comfortable. The day tours were excellent and we certainly learnt a lot of history and saw all the amazing temples. We particularly loved walking around the older parts of Kyoto. Because it was National Holidays so many women and men were wearing traditional clothes which were so beautiful and colourful. The Ryokan Hotel Kikunya on Miyajima was terrific. Highly recommended. We had an ocean view room and loved the Onsen baths. A great experience. And it was very interesting and sad visiting the bomb site and museum in Hiroshima. Miyajima was beautiful and catching the ferry with the JR pass made it very easy.
The JR Pass is a great way to use the trains and we certainly did that!
We also loved our stay in Tokyo and catching up with our friends who live there.
Oh and the weather was perfect – only one day of rain.

So thank you again for all your assistance in making our trip so memorable.

Hi JTB team,

I just want to express my appreciation and thanks to Lily Sugyono.

I am flying out to Japan on Monday (in 3 days) and unfortunately I did not purchase a JR pass early enough – I was unaware that obtaining a pass was not something that can be done quickly.

I contacted other agents/companies who advised me that due to such late notice, there was no way I would be able to receive my JR pass before Monday. The fact that it is Easter long weekend definitely also made this more difficult

When I called JTB and explained my situation, Lily kindly emailed me the forms for me to fill out and had my JR passes ready to be picked up within 3 hours of initial contact!

She told me they would be ready by 4pm, but I was only able to get them picked up before 2pm – she took this into account and prioritised getting this processed.

Due to her commitment – all my needs were satisfied and I am a very happy customer indeed.

so many wonderful memories

Hi Miyuki,

Just wanted to (finally) email you regarding our recent trip to Japan.

We had a fantastic time! There was plenty of snow (we just missed being snowed in at Takayama!) and plenty of cold weather but we loved it just the same. The two tours we had booked, the Mt Fuji-Hakone tour and the all day Kyoto tour, were facilitated by energetic, enthusiastic guides who were very knowledgable about the areas we were travelling through and the sites we got to see. We were so pleased that we spent the extra money to go on these tours as they showed the best of the areas as well as not having to do it all ourselves. The lunch had on the Mt Fuji-Hakone tour was a highlight! Unfortunately the day we went on that tour, it was cold and very bleak so we didn’t get to see many of the beautiful views. It has already been decided though that next time we go we will do the same tour again so we can see what the views were supposed to be like!

It is so hard to pick a highlight city as we enjoyed all of them so much! The culture, the people, the food and the scenery (even when it was whizzing past when on the bullet trains) was spectacular! The bullet train system and the JR pass is just so efficient and easy to use and we were so grateful to have the pass as it meant we could just go to the station, reserve a ticket and know that we would be able to get a seat for our journey. It also meant that travelling on the public transport system was generally a breeze.

The hotels we stayed at were of high quality and had superb, attentive service. We often found ourselves saying ‘we can’t afford to stay here!’. The breakfast package that we purchased is highly recommended (especially in Tokyo – the breakfast selection was phenomenal!). Unfortunately we can’t rave about the hotel or the service we received at our hotel in Osaka – we found the staff to be very rude and unhelpful, the hotel to be dated, rooms very small in comparison to where we had been before and we were given a ‘sanitised’ smoking room when you had specifically requested a non-smoking room for us. We realise that these factors are beyond your control, however we thought we should bring them to your attention for your own reference.

A couple of things we would like to suggest are that some directions be provided on how to get to the hotel from the JR Station that you arrive at. Even if it is just which exit to take and then a simple ‘turn left’ would’ve been very helpful as we often ended up exiting at the wrong exit and having to rely on Google maps (which is not always reliable!). The other would be that an extra night in Takayama and Kyoto would’ve been fantastic so that we could really soak up all that was on offer. We are very happy that we added on an extra night in Tokyo and perhaps next time would add another day as we didn’t quite get to do everything that we wanted to.

We left Japan with a heavy heart as we had enjoyed our stay so much. Don’t worry – we will be going back again soon!

We would like to thank you so much for all your help and service in booking our trip. It was so easy and pain free (we had been to a couple of travel agents before getting in contact with JTB directly, and had not been happy with the service or the prices being quoted to us) and we will be recommending you highly to anyone who asks who we booked through. Thank you for helping us have such a wonderful trip and for helping us to create so many wonderful memories.

Hi Steven,

We had a fantastic time, everything went smoothly and I was very thankful for JTB sending someone to meet me at the airport to arrange all the train tickets and JR pass etc. The students said Kyoto and Takayama were their favourite places and experiences. The school visit, however short, was enjoyed by the students. Everything was well organised, no complications with any accomodation – very thankful JTB was there to back me up. Thanks for your help, and Renee’s as well.

Just wanted to let you know that we had a great time in Japan (and Shanghai)- back a week now- and all our connections and hotels and the JR pass worked well.
We particularly enjoyed Kamikochi, Naoshima. Miyajima, Kanazawa, Takayama but also Kyoto, Kagoshiima. And Tokyo so pretty much everywhere!

Yelp Review

Picture a sweaty bald man hurtling down the street armed to the teeth with luggage (suitcase, laptop and camera backpack). Then throw into the mix the following phrase “If you go to Japan you need a Japan Rail Pass… Oh and you have to book them about 2 weeks in advance!” 

It was with this knowledge that I approached JTB Travel at 1pm today. A mere 9 hours and change before my flight leaves for Japan. Upon entering the sparse reception I was greeted by the lovely Koyomi who immediately set my mind at ease.

The cost of the rail passes isn’t a surprise to anyone, they are $315 but they save you an absolute bomb in the long run. JTB only charge $5 to knock one over for you on the spot, and it takes only 10 minutes tops.

During that 10 minute wait Koyomi exceeded my expectations by bringing back 3 maps and highlighting the main train routes to a plethora of places I am interested in. She also pointed out the specific trains (they have names over there) that I would or wouldnt be able to catch with my railpass. She also threw in one or two suggestions of her own for me to check out. Apparently Michael Jackson shut down an entire shopping centre in one of the districts so he could fashion hunt till his hearts content.

All in all I left elated and really excited about my trip after I left JTB. To think I went in with trepidation and fear and exited with elation makes me smile :)

Good morning Olivia,
We all wanted to pass on our thanks for the brilliant job you did in planning our holiday in Japan. Everything went really well. But  we would have liked to have had more time there!! We all want to go back to different spots to look in more depth.
We decided to use our Rail passes for everything,as we enjoyed the trains so much.Especially the wide view Hida trains which we decided we preferred over the bullet train. Much more space,and great for the views,which of course were stunning through the Alps.
Loved both the ryokan style hotels of course. But we were also very impressed with our budget hotels. In particular, the Shinjuku Washington Hotel scored top points for location-local shops, eateries; proximity to tourist info at Tokyo local government building; the station close by; drop off from the airport bus at the hotel door-great after a long flight; convenience store and cafes in the building; its own laundromat; quietness; and wonderfully helpful staff who even came up and opened the window with a special tool for me as I found the heating stifling [same in all hotels but had opening windows, thank goodness] everywhere indoors.
Also you arranging 2 rooms for most of the trip was a great idea giving us that extra space.
Only disappointment was APA Hotel Kyoto Ekimae. A bit shabby, window  over a stairwell, poor room layout as compared with the others we stayed in, but worst was very disinterested and unhelpful staff- we almost missed our Nara tour because they failed to give us clear directions as to where we had to go and how to get to pickup point for the tour!!
We have already recommended you and JTB to many people.
